THE ACADEMY OF THE ARTS AND INTERACTIVE SCIENCE WILL PRESENT THE HONORARY AWARD TO THE VIDEOGAME THRILL MASTER HIDEO KOJIMA

The Japanese creator will receive the award at Gamelab 2011 as an acknowledgement to his career and creative influence to the industry and universal culture

Hideo Kojima, one of the most renowned videogame creators, will be presented with the Honorary Award by the Academy of the Arts and Interactive Science at Gamelab 2011, the Spanish Games Conference and Expo.

The Academy of the Arts and Interactive Science has decided to institutionalize this award which will be granted annually and will be chosen by the Board of Directors. The goal is to honor those creators and professionals, both Spanish and international, that have contributed with their work to improving the videogame industry, from the artistic or industrial point of view. Kojima will be receiving the Honorary Award in Barcelona, as part of the activities scheduled for Gamelab 2011 (June 29th-July 1st).

Hideo Kojima, will receive this lifetime award for his ability to merge in videogames different arts like literary writing, movie visuals, music excellence and innovative technologies.

His name joins a long list of important international figures that have confirmed their attendance to Gamelab 2011, like Cliff Bleszinski, Trip Hawkins, American McGee, and Louis Castle.

At 47, the Japanese creator is one of the most highly respected figures in the Japanese and worldwide gaming scene.  This is partially due to his innovative work on the Metal Gear saga that started in 1987 and 20 years later, is still alive and considered by many as one of the best game series in History. In the subsequent installments of the saga, Konami’s creative genius manages to capture one of his major obsessions -a nearly perfect combination between cinematography and game play.

Kojima has created many successful titles like Snatcher and Policenauts; he has also been in charge of games like Zone of the Enders and Bokutai.

Recently Hideo Kojima made headlines in Spain due to his collaboration with the Madrid-based studio Mercury Steam in the creation of  Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, the largest Spanish video game production in the history, and the first project the Japanese giant has trusted to a studio outside of Japan.

Gamelab 2011 has the support of the Ministerio de Cultura, the Asociación de Desarrolladores de Videojuegos de España (DEV), Generalitat de Catalunya through the Departament d’Empresa i Ocupació and the Institut Català de les Indústries Culturals, the Instituto de Comercio Exterior (ICEX) and Ajuntament de Barcelona; is sponsored by Game, Sony Playstation, Nintendo, Microsoft and Orange and has the collaboration of Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Interactivas, Games from Spain, Federación Europea de Empresas de Videojuegos (EGDF) and Native Prime.
